What types of forensic science are there?

0

Forensic science often requires the expert testimony in court of recognized (licensed) professionals. Although forensics specialists may be aware of the general techniques, experts such as dentists may have to testify to add credibility (especially in cross-examination). Experts for the prosecution and defense may disagree on interpretation. For example, licensed professional engineers may be requested to testify as to the significance of scientific evidence within their field of expertise. Professors of botany may testify about plants (including DNA of leaves found at a crime scene and in the suspect’s car trunk, etc.). As such, there is almost no limit to the number or type of experts that may be called to testify about forensics evidence, case by case. Forensics specialists must collect and preserve evidence for expert evaluation.

There are as many types of forensic science as there are types of science – forensic just means “can be used in a court of law”, so ALL sciences are forensic sciences.
