What type of equipment will be used for logging?
There are three different types of log yarding methods that will be proposed for use in the plan. The method to be utilized is determined by the type of terrain in any specific area as well as the available road systems.Portions of the property will be logged using tractors to yard the logs to log landings. This method of yarding is typically used where slopes are not as steep and proper access is available.The majority of the property will be yarded using a cable yarder. A cable yarder is a mobile piece of equipment that has the appearance of a crane. No towers will have to be constructed to conduct yarding operations. This equipment utilizes a span of cables that are suspended across a canyon. Logs are lifted off of the ground and moved through the forest canopy to a landing for transport on log trucks. This system is appropriate where steeper slopes allow for the full suspension of logs during yarding.
