WHAT TUTORIAL ASSISTANCE IS AVAILABLE?
The Center for Service and Leaning provides free tutors for many classes offered at BYU. Students who feel that they require assistance can sign up to request a tutor. All volunteer tutors are current BYU students who have already demonstrated competence in the subject area. Tutors are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, and students are encouraged to request a tutor as early as possible because tutors in math and sciences and general education classes are generally in high demand. Many of the colleges have tutorial labs for students who are enrolled in certain classes (e.g., the Biology 100 Lab, the American Heritage 100 Lab, the Economics 110 Lab). Some colleges also support special-purpose tutorial labs open to all students (e.g., the Mathematics/Statistics Lab and the Reading/Writing Lab). If students are uncertain whom to contact, they can contact the Center for information on the many services offered.
The Peer Tutor Lab in the Teaching and Learning Center is open Monday – Thursday from 1:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., operated by a staff of 12-15 trained peer tutors who offer approximately 32 hours per week of free individual help for 60 courses per semester. This is also an internationally certified program affiliated with the College Reading & Learning Association.
