What training do practitioners undergo?
Traditional reiki has three levels of training, each focusing on a different aspect. Training for the first two levels typically is given in eight to 12 class hours over about two days. Students learn how to: position their hands, develop intuition, use the eyes or breath to send reiki, and clear negative-energy fields, among other lessons. Reaching the third level, or master status, can take years. A reiki master can teach and initiate students. No licensing or professional standards exist, however, and training and certification are not formally regulated.
