What role does NRDC play in the USTA’s work?
Lehner: NRDC has been very active in guiding the USTA’s work and serving as an expert resource as they make this transition. We’ve had a lot of experience in this field and are here to offer ideas and provide assistance as the USTA moves deeper into this new world of greening. But make no mistake – this effort is something the USTA is leading; it is a project they have taken on themselves and they’re the ones making the changes. What are the environmental benefits of the USTA’s efforts? Lehner: The benefits are countless – from significant energy savings to waste reduction. Saving energy reduces air pollution and global warming; recycling paper and buying paper with recycled content saves trees, saves water and energy, reduces water pollution, and reduces global warming pollution.
