What is Vodka?
Vodka is a neutral white spirit, originating in Eastern Europe, usually made from either grain or vegetable matter, such as beets or potatoes. U.S. law requires that vodka be “neutral spirits, so distilled, or so treated after distillation with charcoal or other materials, as to be without distinctive character, aroma, taste or color.” As a result, vodkas sold in the United States vary only subtley, with the most pronounced differences being a matter of “mouth feel” rather taste.
