What is the verification process?
The financial aid office will review your federal tax returns and other submitted material and compare them with the information you submitted on the FAFSA. It is to the students benefit to respond to and complete the verification process as quickly as possible because no packaging, awarding, and disbursement of aid will be made until verification is completed. If there are any differences found between information reported in the FAFSA and actual figures reported in tax returns and other required documentation, adjustments will be made to the FAFSA you submitted. Your award will be based upon the corrected information.
The verification process is the process by which schools verify information provided by students and parents according to procedures established by federal regulations. A student can be selected for the verification process by the school or by the Central Processor of the US Department of Education. If a student is selected for verification the school’s financial aid office must check the information reported on the FAFSA, usually by reviewing copies of the tax returns filed along with the school’s own verification worksheets.
Verification is a process that all universities receiving federal aid are required to complete. Students must complete verification in order to be eligible for need-based financial aid. The verification process is completed by collecting various tax information and comparing it to the information reported on a student’s Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This is not done to find fraudulent FAFSA applicants, but to find and correct common mistakes made by students and parents. When an error is found, we make a correction to the student’s FAFSA information. The UW Colleges completes the verification process for those students selected by the U.S. Department of Education’s Central Processing System.
USP’s Verification Program is a multi-step process. It begins with a pre-audit review, which entails an initial assessment of the company’s quality system infrastructure. The program is designed to ensure that critical elements of a company’s manufacturing systems are in place prior to conducting extensive site audits, documentation review, and product testing.
