What is the theory of five elements?
The Five Element theory of Chinese Medicine is based on the observation of the natural cycles and interrelationships in our environment and within ourselves. There are five elements- Fire, Earth, Metal, Water and Wood. Each one corresponds to a set of organs, a type of tissue in the body, a color, an emotion, a smell, a taste and a season. These elements interact with each other in the body. Some interactions are benefitial while others cause imbalances and lead to illness. As a Chinese Medical practioner we work to harmonize these relationships to promote health and well being.
