What is the status of the Crandon Mine in Wisconsin?
The discovery of a zinc-copper ore body near Crandon in northeastern Wisconsin was announced in 1976. The Wisconsin DNR is currently reviewing and verifying permit applications and environmental studies submitted by Nicolet Minerals Company. No permit has been issued and no mining has taken place at the Crandon location. DEQ staff will continue to work with the Wisconsin DNR to evaluate any new information or technologies that might be applicable in Michigan.
