What is the scope and extent of the LCI core database as part of the ELCD?

0

The concept for the LCI data sets to be provided is twofold: The core database of the ELCD will provide high quality, harmonised, and primarily industry based core LCI data sets. “Core” data refers to those data, that is widely used as background data for most LCA studies, such as basic materials from e.g. metals to plastics as well as energy carriers, transport and waste services. In addition, third party LCI data sets, which are a) consistent with the quality requirements of the ELCD database and b) apply the recommended methods and c) also base upon the ELCD core LCI data, will also be listed in the LCA information hub around the ELCD database. Thereby, a continuously growing system of consistent LCI data sets is expected to develop around the core data published via the Commission”s ELCD. The development and provision of such data sets is addressing mainly general LCA database developers.
