What is the romeo and juliet law?
There are harsh laws to punish child molesters ( sentence of 55 months to 228 months). But what about teens having consensual sex with other teens, i think, they should be treated differently. That’s what Romeo and Juliet laws is all about. It provides for less harsher penalties (sentence max. upto 15 months) when a teen younger than 19 engages in voluntary sexual intercourse, sodomy or lewd touching with a teen between the ages of 14 and 16, provided the teens are of the opposite sex. The purpose is to differentiate sex between the real child molesting from the sex between teens of different ages. However it is yet not in place in all the states in US and even in states whre it is applicable it is still not applicable to gay teenagers.
