What is the relationship of BRD to industry?
The BRD welcomes partnerships with industry. In fact, the BRD is working in cooperation with many corporations, such as International Paper (IP). Our work with IP includes surveying and studying the Wherry’s pitcher plant, the white-topped pitcher plant, and the Henslow sparrow; and providing information that can be used to manage the company’s Alabama timberland. The aim is to ensure continuing vitality of harvests while conserving habitat critical to the survival of these species. In addition, the BRD has signed an agreement with the Champion International Paper Company to assist with a biological assessment of a 6,700 acre tract of Champion-owned land in eastern Tennessee.
