What is the relationship between the NSW Wetland Recovery Program and the Rivers Environmental Restoration Program?

0

The two Programs complement one another, as the individual projects within each Program are focussed on halting the decline in health of iconic rivers and wetlands in NSW. Whilst the NSW Wetland Recovery Program focuses on the Gwydir Wetlands and the Macquarie Marshes, the Rivers Environmental Restoration Program builds on the work initiated by the NSW Wetland Recovery Program and extends it to other water sources including the Murrumbidgee, Narran and Lachlan Rivers. For example, the RERP will utilise digital elevation data generated by the NSW Wetland Recovery Program to build hydraulic models of the wetlands. Similarly, water acquired through both programs will be managed in accordance with Environmental Management Plans developed through the NSW Wetland recovery Program. Both of the Programs are purchasing water licences from willing sellers to enhance environmental outcome, although the RERP is progressing this on a larger scale.
