What is the Message Switch good for?
The Message Switch is a software daemon which runs on the Freeway and transfers data between a selected set of sources and destinations. The usefulness comes from its ability to transfer data between different types of source and destination. The simplest application is where you have a client program which can receive one type of data (for example, UDP/IP packets); the Message Switch can be configured to transfer WAN data directly to your client (or to many clients). But there are lots of other uses for the abilities of the Message Switch. For instance, two Message Switch-equipped Freeways can reside at two different sites, connected by an IP network (such as the Internet). If the first Message Switch is configured to convert an incoming WAN data stream to a TCP data stream and send it to the IP address of the second Freeway/Message Switch, and the second Freeway/Message Switch is configured to convert the incoming TCP data stream back into an outgoing WAN data stream, then the final
