What is the maximum size on an e-mail message (including attachments)?
Users of the Shakespeare system (student or website accounts) can receive an e-mail message to 7.6MB. If a message that is over that size is sent to a Shakespeare system account, the sender will receive a non-delivery notice that says “Message size exceeds fixed maximum message size”. Users of Exchange system (faculty or staff) will not get this error since Exchange doesn’t have a message size limit. In most cases an e-mail message over 7.6 MB has a large attachment. Suggestion: • Save your attachment on your personal or professional web account. • Give the complete URL to the person for the file on your website. • Please note: If a file has the following extensions, just giving the file name will allow the person to download that file for the following extension: .doc .wpd .zip It is suggested you create the document, ftp it to the web, then in a web browser, type the name of the file and press enter.
