What is the limit on the size of the Access database?

Microsoft say that 1 Gigabyte is the maximum size of an Access database. If you Compact the database regularly (from the File menu) and delete old jobs then most people should not get anywhere near this limit. Access was never meant to act as more than a departmental database but it is the only database we can distribute without having to pass on the high cost of it’s ‘big brothers’.
