What is the difference between a Drama and a Documentary?

1

For the Drama category, judges are looking for films that depict a fictional story where characters are played by actors. It could be a work of your imagination or be based on real life events. It could also be based on an existing story or play (please refer to the Arts Law Centre of Australia’s Short Film Competition Producers’ Guide to understand whether a screenplay breaches someone else’s copyright). A documentary is based in fact and is a creative depiction of a real person’s life or actual events. If you would like to see a copy of the short-listed dramas and documentaries in the 2005/06 Hope Awards, please contact Lisa Julian on ph: 02 9325 4444 or email hopeawards@lilly.
