What is the difference between a crossover cable and a standard ethernet cable?
Standard ethernet cables are used to connect a single computer to a network switch. A crossover cable is used to connect a single computer to another single computer, or to connect two network switches together. Because the order of the pins on a crossover cable are reversed from that of a standard ethernet cable, it cannot be used to connect a single computer to the network. Do not use a crossover cable to connect your computer to ResNet! Only standard (straight-through) ethernet cables should be used.
