What is the contrast ratio?
The contrast ratio is the ratio between the brightest bright and darkest dark image a display can reproduce. Projectors with a high contrast ratio (1500:1 or higher) are very good for showing pictures, video, or any presentation with lots of color. A higher contrast ratio also means that the projector is better able to differentiate fine details in color.
The contrast ratio relates to the difference between the whitest whites and the blackest blacks that is displayed. A ratio of 10000:1 means that the white levels are 10000 times lighter than the black levels. It isn’t a very important number. How good your eyes are and the environment in which you place your HDTV can lower the contrast ratio.
