What is the community Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)?
The value of Medicinal Plants and the associated traditional knowledge have raised concerns about the protection of the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) of the local community. The Medicinal Plants Conservation Project’s (MPCP) aim is to achieve equal benefit sharing for the outcomes and revenues resulting from the utilization of this knowledge commercially. Giving greater power to the community over their resources will assist their capacity to improve their livelihoods, i.e. the marketing of medicinal products.
