What is the attendance policy?
For evening courses that meet 5:45-9:30, a student can miss one class without penalty. Missing two or more classes will result in letter-grade deductions. Students are strongly recommended to notify their professors and make them aware of any situations that inhibit the ability to attend class. In some cases, it may be best for the student to withdraw from the course. To withdraw for any reason, contact the Dean’s office at 717-728-2202.
Whenever a student is absent or inevitably going to be absent, a parent or legal guardian must submit a Student Absence Report, as early as possible, to explain the absence. A Student Absence Report can be made by calling the school attendance office on the automated line at 754-322-4102. This will ensure that the student receives an excused absence upon returning to school. An excused absence is considered if due to: (a) illness of the student, (b) the student’s need for medical/dental care (ie: a doctor’s appointment), (c) an illness of an immediate family member, or, (c) a death in the family. The student has two days to make up the work for each day that the student is absent, not counting the day of return. Unexcused absences will have a negative impact on the student’s report card grade. When there is extended illness (more than five school days), special arrangements may be made for securing homework assignments by contacting our Guidance Department at 754-322-4100. Please do no
Internships are designed to provide pre-professional experience. You should therefore consider it to be a job, not a class. You are expected to report for your shift on time, physically and mentally prepared to work. We recognize that occasionally you may be ill or may need to be absent for other reasons. If you are ill, you are expected to notify your supervisor if you cannot come to work. Non-illness related absences should be approved by your supervisor at least one week in advance. If you are doing the internship for credit, you will be required to make up all missed time either by working extra hours at the Press during regular business hours or by taking work home with you. No show/no calls are unacceptable. Excessive tardiness or absence may result in early termination of the internship.
As a member of BEN you are expected to attend weekly meetings. We do, however, realise that sometimes life (and even business!) can get in the way. When a member is absent for three (3) consecutive weeks, a phone call is made to determine if there is a problem with the membership. If there is no problem, the member is strongly encouraged to attend the meetings on a regular basis or risk losing the category they represent. Termination of membership is at the discretion of the owner of the group.
