What is the Athena Award?
The ATHENA Award program was developed to recognize and honor outstanding business and professional individuals for excellence in their chosen field, for providing valuable service to their community and for actively assisting women in their attainment of professional goals and leadership skills. The ATHENA Award® was created in 1982 by ATHENA Founder Martha Mayhood Mertz through her partnership with the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce in Lansing, Michigan. ATHENA Award Recipients are individual who: • Demonstrate excellence, creativity, and initiative in their business or profession. • Provide valuable service by contributing time and energy to improve the quality of life for others in the community. • Actively assist women in realizing their full leadership potential. The ATHENA Award recipient is honored with an ATHENA sculpture and here in the Antelope Valley the recipient is also given a gold and diamond ATHENA pin.
