What you want then is tapestry weaving. All weaving is the same in that threads interlace each other; they go over and under. This crossing is what holds the fabric together. Take a close look at a woven rug, your jeans, shirt fabric, etc. If the strand of yarn goes all the way across, creating stripes, then that is loom controlled weaving using a shuttle that runs right across the whole width of the fabric. Tapestry weaving uses short sections of one yarn that weaves back and forth, creating spots of colour and texture. Together these create the pictures you see. Allfiberarts is an excellent site.
