Taglit-Birthright Israel is the most significant Jewish philanthropic endeavor of its kind. The co-founders of the project, philanthropists Charles R. Bronfman and Michael Steinhardt, have created a unique and unprecedented partnership between the Government of Israel, Jewish federations/communities around the world and private philanthropists. These partners believe that it is every Jew’s right to be offered a first-time visit to Israel as a gift from the Jewish people. Since the launch of the Taglit-Birthright Israel initiative in 1999, over 180,000 Jewish young adults have benefited from this unique opportunity through the tremendous generosity of the program’s partners.

A. Taglit-Birthright Israel is a unique, historical partnership between the people of Israel through their government, local Jewish communities (North American Jewish Federations; Keren Hayesod; and The Jewish Agency for Israel), and leading Jewish philanthropists. Taglit-Birthright Israel provides a gift of first time, peer group, educational trips to Israel for Jewish young adults ages 18 to 26. Taglit-Birthright Israel’s founders created this program to send tens of thousands of young Jewish adults from all over the world to Israel as a gift in order to diminish the growing division between Israel and Jewish communities around the world; to strengthen the sense of solidarity between Israeli youth and Jewish communities throughout the world; and to promote the idea of a trip to Israel for all Diaspora Jews as a critical part of Jewish life outside of Israel.
