What is supplication?
What does this word literally mean? The Greek word is ‘daiases’ (sp?), and it simply means – one of many Greek words defining prayer within the New Testament, but it simply means: ‘to pray requesting, beseeching, begging, supplicating’. To pray requesting, beseeching, begging, supplicating – primarily it is a prayer for a wanting need. You need something from God, so you come to God and you ‘daiases’, you plead God to give you what you need. But we need to define it further than that, we need to go into the Old Testament – and you will know that the Old Testament was written in Hebrew, not Greek, but there is a translation of the Old Testament from the Hebrew to the Greek for Greek speakers, so that they could understand the Old Testament, and we get a little bit of light about Greek words from that Old Testament Greek translation – the way that some of the words are used.
