WHAT IS SR22?
SR22 insurance is a type of insurance policy that is required by the court or state when an individual commits a DUI, DWI, at-fault accident, repeat traffic violations, accumulation of tickets, or has his/her license suspended or revoked. SR22 insurance is used differently in each state, so it is recommended that you visit your state’s department of motor vehicles.
SR22 insurance, also called Financial Responsibility Insurance, is a mechanism of the Illinois Safety and Financial Responsibility Law. This “S & FR” Law holds all motorists responsible for damages caused in an accident. Any motorist involved in an accident who is found to be uninsured, must carry SR22 as a penalty, in order to help prevent future uninsured crashes. Other voluntary insurance violations may also incur the SR22 penalty. Violators who do not obtain Illinois SR22 coverage on their automobile insurance will have their license and/or registration suspended.
