The Remote Network Monitoring MIB is a SNMP MIB for remote management of networks. While other MIBs usually are created to support a network device whose primary function is other than management, RMON was created to provide management of a network. Currently (Jan 94) RMON has two instantiations in the IETF standards process. First, RFC 1271 – a Proposed Standard, specifies the general structure of RMON and the particulars of an Ethernet based RMON agent.
