What is Quepos Town ?
Quepos is the small town just north of Manuel Antonio. The town gets it’s name from the Quepoa Indian tribe. Because of disease brought over by the Europeans, warfare and slavery, there were no pure blooded Quepoa left by the turn of the 19th century. Quepos came to prominence as a banana exporting port. Due to the disease, African palm oil replaced bananas as the major local crop. By the mid 60s a road was built from San Jose. By 1970, a colony of Americans had built homes and begun businesses in Manuel Antonio.
