What is pillow lava?
Pillow lava is formed during the slow flowing of lava into the water. This slow flow gives the lava time to make a hardened external shell which resembles a pillow. This shell formation also keeps the lava from becoming one large sheet. For more information, look here: http://www.pmel.noaa.gov/vents/nemo/explorer/concepts/pillows.
