Pepto-Bismol is used to treat indigestion, nausea, diarrhea; to relieve stomach cramps and to prevent traveler s diarrhea. How To Use Pepto-Bismol The liquid form of Pepto-Bismol must be shaken well before pouring each dose. Chewable tablets must be chewed thoroughly or dissolved in the mouth. Non-chewable tablets and caplets must be swallowed whole with a glass of water. The dose may be repeated every 30 minutes to one hour as needed but no more than 8 doses should be taken in a 24 hour period. Pepto-Bismol Side Effects Pepto-Bismol is generally well tolerated. Stools may appear gray-black in color while taking Pepto-Bismol. Do not be alarmed. This will disappear when the medication is stopped.
