What is optical calcite?
Optical calcite is calcite that is clear. Most of the time, when you see a sample of calcite, it has too many impurities and/or the crystals are too small for you to see through. However, if the crystal is big enough and pure enough, then it will be transparent. Optical has an interesting property. Light passing through it will take one of two different paths depending on the orientation of the waves. Because of this when you look through optical calcite, you will see a double image.
