What is Microsoft Software Assurance?
Due to the reduced price of Microsoft products available through COSL, such licenses are typically ineligible for upgrades. This means an upgrade to a new version usually requires a new purchase. Software Assurance addresses this issue by providing free upgrades if a new version is released during the assurance time period. The Software Assurance product is an add-on to a corresponding Microsoft product. You can find Microsoft Software Assurance products in the Software Depot inventory.
Vanderbilt participates in the Microsoft Select volume license program. This program enables customers to purchase licenses for Microsoft application, system, and server products either with or without maintenance. Products purchased with maintenance (i.e. with Software Assurance) provide free product upgrades through the term of Vanderbilt’s Select agreement. Software Assurance does not guarantee that Microsoft will release a new version of any product within any time period.
