What is MetaLib?
MetaLib is a new cross-searching tool for the Library. It is: • a way to organise e-journal collections, databases, e-book bundles and other web sites so that you can find the ones that are relevant to you • a tool to search multiple resources at once (known as meta-searching or cross-searching) • a tool to help you sift through the results that you find, to quickly find the articles and other information that is most relevant to you For many resources, MetaLib is able to bring back the results of a search into the MetaLib interface. MetaLib will only bring back a maximum of 30 hits from each resource (but there is a link to get more results near the top of your results). As results are brought into MetaLib they are analysed and on the right of the screen they will broken down into expandable lists of frequently occurring Topics, Dates, Authors and Journal Titles. MetaLib is an information portal to library collections. It enables institutions to provide their patrons with access to information resources such as catalogs, reference databases, citation databases, subject gateways, and e-journals. MetaLib offers MetaSearch capabilities across diverse resources- be they print or electronic, on-site or remote- and offers library patrons a variety of personalized services.
