Mercer has proactively contacted our key PMI providers and administrators to ask if they have registered for Roche’s rebate scheme, and whether they have claimed on behalf of our clients. Of the responses we received more than 50% have not yet registered for the Roche scheme and of those that have registered, we are not aware of anyone receiving a rebate from the scheme. According to our providers, one of the reasons as to why they have not registered is that the investment in participating in the scheme outweighed the perceived savings/benefits available. With the increasing prevalence and cost of innovative drugs and medical techniques, new financing formulae will have to be found and Mercer welcomes any creative solutions for our clients in this area. It is difficult for us to comment in detail at this stage on the Roche deal, and the response to it from PMI market, as it remains to be seen how many cases will benefit from the Roche rebate scheme.
