Many colleges originally held the balls during the month of May (hence the name), sometimes in the week preceding year-end exams. Currently, they take place in “May Week,” which usually starts on the second Thursday of June following the end of exams. May Week is a time to relax with parties, open-air drama, rowing races, and of course, May Balls.
