What is LIPA?
LIPA is an abbreviation for the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts. The idea for the school originated in 1989. Paul McCartney wanted to see a future for his old school, The Liverpool Institute High School, which had closed because of its rundown condition. Paul, along with the Liverpool City Council and Schools for Performing Arts Trust all were involved in its creation. Paul is the leading patron of the school; other patrons include George Martin, Mark Knopfler, Carly Simon, and Dudley Moore. The school officially opened January 8, 1996.
