What is Islamic Sufism?
Sufism is known as the inner dimension of Islam. Islamic Sufism is a discipline and education that guides individuals to discover their inner truth. Sufism comes from the word ma’rifa, which means “cognition.” The student of Sufism, under the guidance of a Sufi Master (Pir), seeks to cognize his or her true self and inner reality—the truth and meaning of God and Existence as the Prophets and messengers cognized. This is why Sufism is called the reality of religion; it is the way of the Prophets’ communion with God, the way of the enlightened.
