What is infrastructure mode?

0

Infrastructure network topology consists of wireless stations and (one or more) Wireless Access Points (WAPs); and is the mode most commonly used. Infrastructure mode is basically a client-server mode, where all the PCs communicate with the WAP. If the packet is destined for another wireless-connected PC, the WAP will re-transmit the packet to the destination PC.

When a wireless network is set to infrastructure mode (also known as master mode), the wireless network is configured to communicate with a wired network through a wireless access point. This mode is also referred to as “master” or “access point” mode. Figure 5-2: Infrastructure mode.
