What is Ho Chi Minh known for?
This is just my opinion. Ho Chi Minh is looked upon by many as the father of modern day Vietnam. I believe he was more a Nationalist than a Communist. He tried to enlist the aid of the Americans to oust the French after ww2, and they did help to a certain extent, but it soon became quite clear to Ho that the Americans had designs on the country themselves. He had no choice but to jump into bed with China and Russia. The French, except for a few notable exceptions, treated the Vietnamese very badly and it was little wonder that when they finally got rid of them they’d had enough of foreign invaders. Had free elections been held in Vietnam prior to the American war he would have won in a land side. They weren’t, and a lot of people have blood on their hands because of it. Unfortunately Bac Ho died before seeing his dream of a United Vietnam forfilled. I feel that when communism finally dies out (and it will) he will still be revered by the majority of Vietnamese.
