What is hairy tongue
Also called: Black Tongue, Lingua Villosa Hairy Tongue, Black Tongue, Lingua Villosa is a temporary condition caused by the growth of bacteria or yeast. The tiny eruption on the tongue, which is known as papillae, becomes infected by bacteria or fungi. The tongue is covered by a hairy black layer, hence the name Hairy Tongue, Black Tongue or Lingua Villosa Causes of Hairy Tongue or Black Tongue are “Change in the oral flora due to antibiotic treatments, poor oral hygiene due to some medication, excessive use of mouthwashes containing oxidizing agents like hydrogen peroxide or astringents, use of tobacco, or excessive use beverages like tea or coffee etc”.
