Guam is an unincorporated territory of the United States. It is 30 miles long and 4 to 8 miles wide with a population of 153,000 people. Tourism is the #1 industry and Guam gets over 1,200,000 tourists visiting every year. English is the official language and the US dollar is the official currency. Electricity is based on the US system (110 volts), so no converters are necessary. Mail to/from the United States is charged at the domestic rate using the US Postal Service – a letter costs 44 cents to send to the mainland. The phone system is also based on the North American system in that calls to/from the U.S. are not charged at international rates. Long-distance calls can be made by purchasing pre-paid phone cards (MCI, AT&T, Sprint, etc.) or one can set up an account with a local phone company. For more information about Guam, click here.
