What is financial aid suspension?
Financial Aid Suspension occurs when a student who is currently on Financial Aid Probation fails to complete either or both of the Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements for a second consecutive semester. All financial aid is suspended. This includes all federal, state, and institutional aid including tuition remission and tuition exchange, and most outside scholarships. Financial Aid Suspension can also occur as a result of a student who is placed on disciplinary probation at the discretion of the Vice-President of Student Services or the student faculty court. The probationary student can lose all or part of the aid the student has been given from the date such action is taken. In such instances, the student will be required to make arrangements immediately with the director of the Office of Student Accounts for payment of any balance due the university.
A student is placed on Financial Aid Suspension when a consecutive semester of not meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements are not met (2 consecutive semesters on Financial Aid Probation). In addition, a student is placed on Financial Aid Suspension when a student reaches Maximum Time Frame. A student reaches Maximum Time Frame when he/she has attempted more than 150% of the units required to complete their major and/or educational goal (150% completion includes all previous coursework attempted, even if financial aid was not received). A student on Financial Aid Suspension is not eligible for any Financial Aid until this status has been cleared by completing at least one term of Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements and having a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above. A student may choose to appeal their Financial Aid Suspension status by completing an Appeal Form if he/she has experienced documented extenuating circumstances.
Financial aid will be suspended (terminated) for: –Students who fail to complete at least 50% of total units attempted or who fail to complete at least 50% of units attempted during a semester in which they received financial aid; –Students who fail to meet the conditions of their probation or reinstatement; –Students who fail to maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 after attempting 48.0 or more units; –Students who have attempted 90.0 or more units, including transfer units from other colleges. In order to regain eligibility, a student suspended from financial aid must make satisfactory progress according to the terms of the suspension notice.
