What is EVP?
A. EVP stands for Electronic Voice Phenomena. EVP is a mysterious event in which human-sounding voices from an unknown source are heard on recording tape, in radio station noise and other electronic media. Most often, EVPs have been captured on audiotape. The mysterious voices are not heard at the time of recording; it is only when the tape is played back that the voices are heard. Sometimes amplification and noise filtering is required to hear the voices. Some EVP is more easily heard and understood than others. And they vary in gender (men and women), age (women and children), tone and emotion. They usually speak in single-words, phrases and short sentences. Sometimes they are just grunts, groans, growling and other vocal noises. EVP has been recorded speaking in various languages.
Brief History The birth of EVP can be attributed to Thomas Edison because of his phonograph and recording inventions. Thomas Edison was known to be involved in the spiritualist movement that was popular in the US and abroad in the 1920s. In the late 1920s, near the end of his life, Thomas Edison experimented with a spirit communication machine. Unfortunately, Edison passed away in 1931 before he could document any results. In 1959, Friedrich Juergenson, a Swedish artist and film producer noticed that he had unexplainable voices on recordings he made of song birds in the woods. He continued his research and wrote a book entitled “Voices from the Universe”. In 1982, Sarah Estep from Severna Park, MD began the American Association for Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP) with the intent to prove that there is life beyond the physical plane; her research began as an attempt to contact her departed husband. In the same year, Sarah published a book entitled “Voices of Eternity” in which she chro
Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP) are voices and sounds which appear on electronic recordings for no apparent reason. Some people attribute EVP to paranormal causes, saying that these sounds are caused by communications from ghosts, aliens, spirits, and so forth. Others suggest that these sounds may be caused by perfectly explainable things, such as feedback or improper recording technique. In any case, EVP are among a large family of topics which are discussed by the parapsychology community, with some people fervently believing that EVP is paranormal in origin, while others regard it as a hoax. The concept of the paranormal first began to attract a great deal of interest in the early 1800s, with the rise of Spiritualism. Spiritualists believed that they could communicate with “the other side” through people known as mediums, and a large cottage industry of mediums arose in the 19th century to feed popular demand. Spiritualists also described paranormal experiences, ranging from abduct
Electronic Voice Phenomenon or EVP is science of recording voices and sounds of the dead. These sounds and voices are not heard by the investigators at the time of the recording, but are heard when played back. These are an important step in providing scientific evidence that there is intelligent life after death. Where is a good place to do EVP? Almost anyplace is a good location, it does not have to be a location of tragedy or a history of death. However, these are good locations. Spirits are everywhere. Just think of all the places that man has been, if man has been there, then there is a good chance that a spirit can be there. Some of the most common spots that people attempt EVP are cemeteries, battlefields, places where death have occurred, and places that are suppose to be haunted. Spirits are eager to talk to us, and once they figure out what we are doing they are eager to talk. I should say that most that do talk are distressed or saddened with despair. Recording EVP does not
