Equine Distemper is the same thing as strangles (the common name), it is a disease that causes swelling in the nasal tissue as well as pus filled abcesses in the lymph nodes. Most times it works itself out when the abcesses rupture and then the horse recovers without a problem, the only reason to treat it with anitbiotic or by draining the abcess is when a horse is doing very badly and if not treated will die.
