What is distance learning?
Distance learning is any learning that takes place with the instructor and student geographically remote from each other. Distance learning may occur by surface mail, video, interactive or cable TV, satellite broadcast, or any number of Internet technologies such as message boards, chat rooms, and desktop video or computer conferencing.
Distance learning occurs when there is a physical separation of the teacher and learner and when communication and instruction take place through, or are supported by, any technological means such as telephone, radio, television, computers, satellite delivery, or interactive video. Distance learning allows MTSU to make more courses available and more easily accessible to a larger number of students.
Distance Learning – online courses – is a way to take regular college credit courses using computer-based technology to learn concepts, supplement textbook information, and communicate with instructors and other students. Distance Learning is not a program in itself; it is a mode of delivery of courses required for a degree program. Distance Learning courses follow the same academic calendar as campus-based courses and are not self-paced.
