What is Digital GEM?
Digital GEM stands for “Grain Equalization and Management”. Digital GEM gathers information during the scan to be used in reduction of the visible grain in the image. It can reduce the sharpness of the image which may have to be corrected with post processing. Highly visible grain is most commonly associated with high speed films, therefore Digital GEM is usually not necessary for most scans.
