What is cryptic species?
Cryptozoology is the science of looking for and documenting unclassified (unknown by science) animals. An animal that is unclassified is called a cryptid. Once a cryptid is discovered and properly classified it is no longer a cryptid, just a newly discovered species. Cryptids are often known by the local people in the location in which the cryptids live, but have never been documented in a scientific way. Cryptids are often considered folklore or myth until they are discovered, if they are discovered. Cryptozoology is a controversial field because, while there are many new species of animals found every year, there are also many mythological animals that will always remain cryptids because one cannot prove scientifically that they don’t exist, one can only scientifically prove that something does exist.
