COALESCE is an option of the ALTER INDEX statement, which is used for rebuilding indexes. This option removes the deleted leaves from the index branch and compresses the rest of the leaves to create space for reuse. Unlike the REBUILD option, the COALESCE option does not require disk space for rebuilding the index. The COALESCE option cannot move the index to a different tablespace.
