What is chelation therapy?
A1- Chelation therapy is an out patient treatment that involves intravenous injection of a solution of EDTA (ethylene diamine tetra acetic acid, a synthetic amino acid) with added minerals and vitamins. The word chelation is derived from the Greek word chele, which means “to claw”. Like a crab uses its pincer to grab the prey, EDTA, as it passes through the veins and the arteries, grabs and binds to the harmful and toxic metals such as cadmium, arsenic lead, mercury, aluminum, along with excess calcium and iron. The EDTA-metal complex is rapidly eliminated by kidneys (major part) and some via liver into the stools.Chelation is a regular natural phenomenon in all plants and animals. In simple terms, chelation is a process that allows organisms to use inorganic minerals. For example, chlorophyll, the green pigment in plants is a chelate of magnesium. The red pigment (hemoglobin) in human blood cells is a chelate of iron. Likewise, in our body, the enzymes that control most of the function
Chelation therapy is an intravenous therapy using EDTA, a synthetic amino acid, to help open the arteries for increased blood flow. It is beneficial for people trying to prevent having invasive procedures such as angioplasty or bypass surgery. For people with a history of such procedures, chelation offers a complement. Chelation therapy is also effective in removing toxic metals from the body.
