What is CBCAP?
CBCAP was established in 1985 as part of the Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act and is a federal program designed to: • support community-based efforts to develop and manage initiatives aimed at the prevention of child abuse and neglect • support networks of coordinated resources and activities to better strengthen and support families to reduce the likelihood of child abuse and neglect • foster an understanding, appreciation and knowledge of diverse populations in order to be effective in preventing and treating child abuse and neglect To reduce the risk of child abuse, CBCAP is designed to: • improve family functioning, problem solving, and communication • increase social support • connect to concrete supports • increase knowledge about child development and parenting • improve nurturing and attachment between parent and child
